Kai's Status

Kai is following the GAPS Diet.  Thousands of people are finding healing from many different ailments through this diet and supplementation.  There is a book written by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride called the Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS).  She applies the same principles in diet as the Specified Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) except she recommends eliminating dairy in the beginning as the gut repairs itself.

Kai is eating a diet rich in nutrients.  It is based on meats, homemade meat or bone broth, lots of vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds, and honey.  We will be going back to the Intro Phase of her diet this week to do some more healing.  We will eliminate nuts/seeds, fruit and honey for a few weeks. This is to address candida overgrowth in her gut and on her skin.  Something we have recently discovered.  Until we begin the GAPS Intro Diet again she will continue her current protocol (see protocol link).

She is satiated, but misses certain foods.  She understands everything that is going on and knows that she needs to do this to get better and enjoy many more foods without suffering. Her favorite snacks are mashed bananas with coconut oil and frozen peas!

Kai gets extremely itchy throughout the day.  This is not only caused by eczema, but also from die-off and detox.  She has some homeopathic allergy spray and online games to help during severe moments of itchiness.  She also itches a lot at night.  She loses much sleep.  This is something I hope changes soon.

At this time, she is seeing a chiropractor who also specializes in N.E.T. and a muscle tester.  We get much support and help through the GAPShelp yahoogroup, as well.

As of 11/18/11:
Kai's skin texture and elasticity has improved! I am crediting it to more healing in her gut, the ghee (vitamin A, D, and K), and Vitamin D3 drops recently recommended by her chiropractor. She is itching a little less during the day and itching a lot less at night. The other night she had a good night's sleep. She said it herself! We are all so excited to keep pressing on and to continue seeing improvement in Kai.

As of 11/24/11:
We have seen another leap in her healing! A few things actually. First, she is getting better sleep. Her chiropractor has recommended a supplement that will help correct her adrenal glands. They are producing too much cortisol at night which is one reason she is itching so much at night, thus losing sleep. The ADHS began helping her right away. The first day she took it she slept well that evening. Also, she is handling certain textures on her skin that she could not tolerate well. This is part of the Sensory Dysfunction. She wore a cotton, long sleeve jacket that touched her arms today. That hasn't happened in a LONG time! Then this past Sunday, she wore leggings! She would never put a pair on no matter how much I begged her. But she did it and wore them all day long. Thirdly, she is itching less during the day. It is helping me to type all this out. It makes me realize that she really is progressing and it encourages me. It's Thanksgiving today so I guess I naturally would say, I'm thankful for Kai's progress in healing!
